Week 2 - Island Hopping!

So after the emotional goodbye with my dad at our Bangkok hotel I then made a short journey further into the centre of Bangkok to meet the group I would be touring with for the next leg of the journey.

I was so nervous heading into this part and suddenly everything became real. I had no idea who the people I was about to meet were and I was so nervous, lucky for me I have such a lovely group and have made some amazing friends from it!

We started the night with a group meal and then headed out to Kaoh San Road for lots of drinking and a good old beer tower, this then led to myself and my roommate missing our alarm and being woken at 7am by the phone asking where we were - oops! Not to worry we managed to get dressed and out the door in 5 minutes and made the van to the airport on time.

Kaoh San Road.

After a short flight we landed in Krabi where we proceeded to the pier to get on a long tail fishing boat to take us to the Muslim village of Koh Klang we were staying that night. Along the way we stopped at an old cave which was really interesting to see, I have never seen so many bats!

The cave.

We then went on to the village and saw our accommodation for that night - 8 girls sharing a very basic hut. In all honesty it was actually very nice but there was only one fan for 8 of us and it was so hot I was very uncomfortable. We were all so knackered from the night before though we managed to sleep very well!

The beach in Koh Klang.

Our hut in the village.

We had a look around the village and saw how the local people worked and how they lived, we took a wander down to the beach and saw clams, mussels and crabs which was really cool and I had my first ride in a tuk tuk! With it being a Muslim village it meant we had to have our shoulders and legs covered meaning 15 very hot sweaty people!

The next day we had our breakfast and the local fishermen showed us some of the massive fish they have and we then ventured off in the fishing boat again to the pier where we got 2 vans to Ao Nang beach.

Massive pufferfish - it looks like an angry bird!

Needless to say everyone was very excited about the prospect of changing into a bikini and diving into the sea and having the rest of the afternoon to chill out - exactly what I did. I also got my first Thai massage right by the beachfront which was amazing. That night we went for dinner and were introduced to Chang bar - we had the best time at this bar, again lots of drinking and dancing.

As we were staying in Ao Nang for 2 nights the next day was free for optional activities. Myself, my roommate and 2 other girls decided to do the boat trip to Koh Phi Phi island. We got on the bumpiest speed boat ever and travelled first to Bamboo Island. This is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Crystal clear water and white sand it really was like the pictures you see. We then went and saw the small lagoons within the cliffs which were so amazing and then proceeded to Phi Phi island itself for lunch.

After that we went to a couple more lagoons for some snorkelling and then headed back to the beach. That evening we were back at Chang bar and had my favourite night so far where we just drank and danced and generally had a really fun night out. I have no pictures worth making the blog for this!

From Ao Nang we got a private boat to Railay Beach stopping at Chicken Island (it looks like a giant chicken head) for lunch and snorkelling stops. Railay Beach is a really secluded beach resort. We stayed here for one night, in probably the worst hotel room I've ever seen, but the scenery was beautiful and we spent that night drinking beer on the beach after getting told numerous times to avoid the ice so cocktails were off the menu.

Chicken Island

From Railay we went on a 4 hour journey to Koh Lanta which is a lot nicer. The hotel is really nice and we have a pool which we all got so excited about. We spent our first night having dinner on the beach then went for a few drinks at a local bar. We decided to not do any trips the next day as everyone was really tired and just fancied a pool day so after a lie in and breakfast that is what we proceeded to do!

Sitting by the pool on the last day!

It was our last night altogether as a group so we had a really nice group dinner out and then the same group of 8 of us went on to a karaoke bar which was so much fun.

My dinner - chicken and cashew nut fried rice in a fresh pineapple - so yummy!

Now we're on the last day as a group, we had to say goodbye to some of the group this morning which was sad as everyone has grown so close. But not long till some of us are reuniting in London and I may also be able to see some of the friends I made in New York when I get there!

After a long bus journey we made it to Krabi train station and are getting an overnight train to Bangkok so in 14 hours I'll be back in the capital. A few of us have some plans over the next couple of days and then off to Australia on Wednesday unexpectedly with my roommate Pippa - a last minute decision but will be so fun to have a travel buddy!

On the top bunk in the sleeper train!

The beds.

Before the beds went up.

Will post again next week for week 3 so speak to you then!

With love, Lauren x
